ACME Guide (Apache, ColdFusion MySQL, Eclipse)

The ACME Guide is a fantastic document created by Stephen Collins, which lays out in easy to understand steps, how to set up and configure Apache, ColdFusion, MySQL and Eclipse on your local Mac or PC.

Unfortunately the document has been dormant for a while (only covering up to ColdFusion 7).

However, after speaking with Stephen, we've got approval to take over the job of maintaining the guide. And we're absolutely delighted.

We'll be honouring all of Stephen's hard work, but since the documents last update, a lot of things have changed, including:

* We're now on ColdFusion 9 * We have established alternative CFML engines in OpenBD and Railo * CFEclipse has been updated * ColdFusion Builder has been released

As such, we want to incorporate as much as we can into this document and therefore we'd like your suggestions.

The obvious update is to change the installers to cover ColdFusion 8 and 9. Besides that, it would be good to see not only the direct-from-Apache installers but all-in-one packages such as XAMPP.

It would be nice to have a comprehensive guide on getting an optimal Railo install including using vhosts and everything.

I believe this revise guide should also include information about Subversion and Git.

Fantastic, thanks! Probably "the" most useful, comprehensive doc for setting up the dev environment. I need to setup an environment and was hoping for an updated version. Any progress or is there a draft version for review?

It would be nice to see details on how to harden the security of an Apache / ColdFusion installation according to Adobe's rules and industry best practices. At least a discussion on the topic and resources on where to look for more details would be a good start.

I appreciate this kind of guide. However I found after reading it that it assumes the reader knows "HOW" to do most of the steps. It covers the WHAT and some WHY but not HOW. I am not new to CF development but new to using a localdev kind of environment. I want to set up for multiple domain development locally and need to know the steps to take to set up an environment. I'm aware of MAMP and heard of XAMPP but want to know how they would fit into this line up. It seems that I could install MAMP and then CF9 and be good to go but there are likely details I should know to make them all play together. I'd also like to learn the recommended work flow of development is in this kind of environment.

Whatever happened to this? Has there been an update?
